As a retired Special Education Teacher of thirty-three years. I have always been a union member and an advocate for children and now teachers and workers in HISD and my community. When I retired from HISD in December of 2019 I went to work continuing my advocacy. “I am humbled and yet proud serve as President of the Houston Federation of Teachers Local 2415.”

My concern for workers and worker rights has always been paramount. My concern for the last and least has compelled me into service. At the same time, I realize that the accomplishments that have been made are too precious to lose. We cannot allow those that are divisive and self-promoting to impede future progress. We cannot afford to lose ground. “United,” we will not.

I want to leave this world a better place than the one I have lived in. A world where opportunities are a reality for all. I believe that unions are the mechanism to achieve this goal. Although I view myself as a behind the scenes person, I do not mind taking the lead if need be. However, I too believe that power built is power shared. Collectively and collaboratively, we can sustain what we have accomplished and united we can achieve more success and gain great ground. I believe in organized labor, racial justice, and the democratic process.
