Being an educator or a school healthcare employee can be mentally draining, especially in the midst of a global pandemic. Educators and healthcare professionals want to offer compassion and empathy to students, primarily to those who have experienced trauma. However, this often causes emotional fatigue as empathizers take on the trauma of their victims. Secondary trauma may take a toll in a variety of ways, making it difficult to function both professionally and personally. AFT offers FREE Trauma Counseling for all active and on-leave members of the union. For more information, log in to your member benefit portal.
Back to School Stewards Training is set. Wednesday, August 18th. The teacher prep day is on Wed. 8/18 this year as opposed to a Friday in other years. We have approval for HISD PD credit for our stewards +1 person from the campus to attend. We need RSVPs by August 6th and we’ll submit that list to the district to get registered.
If you are your campus’s steward please register so we can get you credit for attending this professional development.
In order to be excused from your school assignment that day, you must register by August 3rd 2021. We will share the registration list with HISD Chief Academic Officer so you may be excused to attend the event. When you register, please notify your principal in writing you will be attending this event.
HISD staff will have a sign-in and sign-out system to make sure you get credit for attendance. In order to get credit for the day, you must be in attendance from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Each campus may have up to 2 people attend the workshop. Please consider who you can invite from your HFT campus action team to attend with you.
